WORLD TRANSPORT OVERSEAS, your Pangea partner in Albania and Balkans region, is bearing with port congestion and related issues which are becoming the new standard of a normal day at work when trading at Durres port. The port of Durres is Albania’s sole container seaport, but it has been experiencing congestion for several months. Vessels are waiting for 4-5 days outside the port before they can enter and begin unloading. The increased cargo volume and port capacity limits are also contributing to the congestion.
Also, after entering in the dock it is taking at least two days for a shipment to finish unloading and depart from ports with exports. For almost a year this port is operating with a maximum of 2 container cranes, that for the last 2 month is reduced to one container crane. The rising cargo volume and port capacity limits is also giving a hand to port congestion.
These delays have not only impacted transit time of the shipment but also have been a catalysator for carriers to increase the local charges (THC, Detention and Demurrages) and the national Inland rates are almost twice as double of the rate in the beginning of this year. Until a solution is found to improve this situation, WORLD TRANSPORT OVERSEAS is following up closely every move and recommending clients to take measures to cope with the situation, specially companies that ship seasonal goods or row materials goods.
