UNITEX, your Pangea partner in China, recently completed the transportation of 369 ultra-long, 38-meter seabed foundation steel pipes and accessories from Huanghua Port in Hebei Province, China, to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The shipment comprised 659 packages with a total weight of 7,402,989 kg and a volume of 16,117.45 CBM, requiring specialized handling and coordinated project planning throughout the operation.

Given the scale of the cargo and the port’s limited breakbulk export capacity, UNITEX developed a coordinated handling plan to support the shipment. As transporting the cargo entirely by road would have taken approximately 20 days, a dedicated yard area was secured and a direct discharge and stacking arrangement was implemented.
The dimensions of the steel pipes required specialized lifting solutions. UNITEX customized a 15-meter lifting boom and utilized two ship cranes operating in tandem from the bow and stern. Through coordinated 24/7 operations, loading was completed in four days, ahead of the six days originally estimated. Each pipe was also fitted with two custom 10-ton lifting slings to facilitate discharge at destination.
The cargo has since arrived safely at Port Moresby, highlighting UNITEX‘s expertise in managing complex breakbulk, heavy-lift, and oversized cargo shipments through careful planning and close coordination with all project stakeholders
