Why Amazon wants to compete with freight forwarding companies? The e-commerce giant requests an ocean freight forwarding license in China

BANNER_ML_Square_PRESS_RELEASEThe e-commerce giant, Amazon has applied for a license to operate as a shipping company in China. By using the local firm Beijing Century Joyo Courier Service Ltd, the company has legally registered to manage container shipments between the United States and China. Coupled with this are the company’s plans to lease 20 cargo planes in the US and create its own fleet of trucks to deliver packages there. What is Amazon’s intention and how could its new strategy affect the highly competitive freight sector?

There’s no doubt that these moves have raised some concerns among companies operating in the freight sector, however this is also an issue for companies buying and selling through Amazon. In the short term, it would seem that Amazon is simply searching for a way to reduce its logistic costs; but in the long term, it may also be considering extending its activities in the lucrative freight forwarding market, just as it has already done in other areas like cloud technology services.
