Education course by PEKAES (Poland)

PEKAES, your Pangea partner in Poland and leading logistics operator, is involved for the third time in the Top Young 100 Programme. For years, the company has been conducting educational activities to improve knowledge and competence among future logistics professionals. Apprenticeship programmes, tours and study visits at terminals and expert meetings have already been permanently included in the PEKAES activity calendar.

The Top Young 100 programme was designed for students, among others, in logistics, industry 4.0, IT and technology. It supports and promotes young talent in the professional market. The prestigious initiative is run by the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Menedżerów Logistyki i Zakupów (The Polish Association of Logistics and Purchasing Managers).

“We have been participating in the Top Young 100 project from the very beginning. It is certainly valuable to combine three areas: business, academia and students. Any student may apply for the project himself or be nominated by his/her university. The mentoring process in the project is the most important element of Top Young 100. For nearly a year, the mentor supports the student’s knowledge and experience to achieve specific objectives”, says Maciej Bachman, President of the PEKAES Management Board.

Not only does the candidate’s CV play an important role in the recruitment process for Top Young 100, but also his or her participation in TSL scientific circles or in the preparation of industry events. After the programme is completed, its participants have a chance to be employed in companies.

Learn logistics with PEKAES
Top Young 100 is just one of the areas where PEKAES and academia work together. The company also conducts study visits to its branch offices under the slogan “Poznaj logistykę z PEKAES” (Learn logistics with PEKAES).
“This programme is very popular at universities. It is a unique project and I think the only one on the market, given that the whole day study visit is combined with meetings with experts from our company and the work of students on a specific case study”, adds Maciej Bachman, President of the PEKAES Management Board.

The year-round internship programme at PEKAES covers 20 cities in Poland and is implemented in all PEKAES branches. The target audience for this initiative is pupils and students who associate their future with logistics as well as vocational teachers and apprenticeship supervisors who direct young people to practices at a reputable employer.

PEKAES is also the organiser of cyclical workshops “Kobieta menadżer w branży TSL” (Woman Manager in the TSL sector) and “Logistyka 4.0” (Logistics 4.0). Meetings have taken place so far at Szkoła Główna Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego w Warszawie (Warsaw University of Life Sciences), Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna (Military University of Technology), Uniwersytet Gdański (University of Gdańsk) and Uniwersytet w Białymstoku (University of Bialystok). Representatives of the company also give lectures under the slogan “Poznaj eksperta z PEKAES” (Meet an expert from PEKAES), which take place at universities at the invitation of the logistics science circles.

In turn, the workshop “How to position yourself on the labour market in TSL – PEKAES experts share their experience” is organised as a separate event or on the occasion of academic job fairs.

“We share practical knowledge with students how to consciously build a career in the logistics industry as well as how to prepare application documents, build an image in social media or perform well at a job interview. In addition, we are conducting so-called ‘Oxford debates’ for students and organizing study visits to the container port in Gdynia. We are also constantly looking for new initiatives and forms of cooperation with academia”, adds Justyna Trzcińska, Head of Recruitment and Development in PEKAES.

The operator shall also carry out projects with secondary schools (logistics technology) which organize apprenticeship programmes, study visits and expert meetings.
