One of the company’s recent standout operations was the successful transport of multiple slag pots for the mining industry. These impressive units, with dimensions of 3.24 x 2.6 x 3.325 meters and weighing 15 tons each, totaling 75 tons or 98 cbm, were expertly discharged at Durban Port, cleared through customs, and seamlessly delivered to Empangeni, located 169 km north. Despite the challenge of port congestion, BLS PORTCO’s team navigated logistical complexities with precision, utilizing three low-bed trailers and an expertly coordinated transport plan. The shipment was completed in just six hours, highlighting the company’s commitment to timely delivery and client satisfaction.
Another Successful Shipment: Specialized Handling of Distillation Equipment
In another remarkable achievement, BLS PORTCO facilitated the movement of a SY1250H Excavator in CKD form (13 packages) for the mining industry. The operation involved five pieces totaling 61 tons or 222 cbm, with the main piece requiring specialized handling. Weighing 25.5 tons and measuring 9.25m x 3.2m x 3.5m, the main piece was safely transported using the ship’s crane and an overhead gantry crane at the client’s premises. Following strict abnormal load regulations, BLS PORTCO ensured safety and efficiency by securing permits, planning routes, conducting safety checks, and utilizing escort vehicles. The trailers used included a 60-ton lowbed for the main body unit and four normal trailers. With support from their ships agency division, the shipment was successfully delivered from Durban Port to Boksburg, Johannesburg, without any delays, highlighting the seamless integration of expertise across all services.
