In an impressive feat of logistics, a total of 2,475 steel pipes—each measuring 12 meters in length and varying in diameter—have been seamlessly transported by ANTWERP SHIPPING AND FORWARDING (ASF), your Pangea partner in Belgium, for a power plant in Iceland. The shipment, weighing an astonishing 2,474 tons with a total volume of 3,169 m³, was meticulously planned to ensure both cost efficiency and operational precision. A series of images captures the ASF team’s careful handling, securing, and loading procedures, showcasing the precision and coordination required for this seamless transport operation.
The journey began in Caofeidian, China, where the cargo was loaded as breakbulk aboard the MV Chang Shun 2, a liner vessel operated by COSCOL. While a direct charter to Iceland was initially considered, the logistics team implemented a more strategic approach by utilizing Antwerp as a transshipment hub, resulting in an impressive 25% reduction in transport costs.
Upon arrival in Antwerp on March 5, 2025, the pipes were carefully discharged at Zuidnatie Terminal, Quay 118, where a series of critical operations took place. The team sorted the pipes by diameter, arranged customs clearance as bonded cargo in transit, and conducted meticulous surveys during both discharge and reloading. Additionally, specialized teams ensured the lashing and securing of the cargo before reloading it onto the MV NM Copenhagen, a chartered vessel operating on a free-in basis, bound for its final destination in Iceland.
The MV NM Copenhagen departed from Antwerp on March 19, with arrival in Thorlakshofn on March 24, 2025. This complex operation highlights ASF’s commitment to optimizing routing, managing costs, and maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards in multimodal logistics.
