MIREMAR (Uruguay) is interviewed by Logistics Magazine, Protagonist

It is a pleasure to share with you a translation of the recent interview that the Magazine “Protagonist of the logistics and foreign trade sector” made to Miremar, your Pangea partner in Uruguay.

The quarterly Protagonist magazine highlights the activity of the logistics and foreign trade community, understood in its broadest sense. Its distribution is 8,000 copies and annually it exceeds 100,000 downloads.

It involves the entire supply chain from exporters, industrialists and importers, as well as its different stakeholders: maritime authorities, ports, port operators, maritime agents, warehouses, free zones, logistics operators, forwarders, dispatchers, transporters and multiplicity of suppliers.

Under the title “Logistics efficiency has its own name: Miremar”, pls. see below the interview contents.

Being an international company, Miremar has achieved high standards of efficiency working around the world thanks to a wide global network that allows the firm’s clients to reach the entire planet.

What does it mean to have the Certification of the National Customs Office as an Authorised Economic Operator, AEO?
Above all, it implies a responsibility and a distinction with which we must be consistent. Our vision of the future is of a safer world, this paradoxically means taking risks that governments and companies do not want or cannot take. Our country has committed its resources to implement solutions that work, with very little margin for error. Uruguayan companies must project to the world an image of efficiency and security that attracts investment and new business. Companies like ours have the right structure to take risks, handle challenges and the agility to get into action.

More than 20 years providing excellence to clients. What is the secret of your validity and what characterises the company with respect to competition?
20 years ago when we created Miremar, the world was, in many ways, very different from today. That was before the economic crisis of 2002, before the emergence of smartphones and 11S. Back then, as now, market opportunities were limited, but we knew we had the necessary fundamentals.

The challenge was how to do it in a meaningful way that would generate loyalty in our clients.

Over the past 20 years, our company has focused on establishing strong ties with leading international operators, actively participating in international conferences in logistics hubs. Our company has also assumed responsibilities with its clients and has maintained them, sometimes even with our own assets. The objective is not only progress, it is to put all the power of our experience, effort and resources that, if successful, will ensure our permanence.

How does the company manage to inspire confidence in its customers and what processes do you put in place to ensure the safety of the transported cargo?
The risks we take are different from those taken by true progress makers: health workers facing epidemics like the one that has arisen in China, or going to war zones to vaccinate children in need. What they do requires sacrifices that we cannot match and aware of this, we try to honor them by supporting them with our work. Our security work is focused on in-depth knowledge of our business partners and on continual updating on the criminal modalities that arise in the world. We believe that training is basic in all this and even more important is to share what we have learned.

What are the company’s medium-term plans and how do you hope to end 2020?
Last year, our company invested a very important sum in technological updating, we know that the greatest weakness of any company is there: on the web. Globally we are satisfied with what we have achieved, we believe that the challenges we face have prepared us for future progress. That is why we have started working with companies in the pharmaceutical sector. When we ventured into this area we were surprised by the damages and losses that are generated globally by counterfeiting of medicines, poor transportation, lack of knowledge in the handling of pharmaceutical products, the losses are truly millionaires. Given that this situation is not being solved by the market or even by the governments, we saw an opportunity there to offer in our services good practices for the distribution of pharmaceutical products. Our goal for this year is to demonstrate to our customers that this specialization is necessary and that Miremar is familiar with these risks and can provide the right solution as a cargo operator.
