MIREMAR (Uruguay) is certified as Authorized Economic Operator, AEO

MIREMAR, your Pangea partner in Uruguay, is proud to announce their recent certification as Authorized Economic Operator, AEO. This makes MIREMAR one of the first cargo agencies in Uruguay to fulfil the certification requirements. At present in the country there are 68 certified companies and only 3 certified cargo agencies, including MIREMAR, that is now able to access specialized industries such as the pharmaceutical and perishables.

After more than 18 months of work for implementing the new system, preparing the company with documentation and written processes, and an important financial effort, MIREMAR was finally prepared to obtain the recognition by the Customs Authorities. MIREMAR had been selected by a governmental institution and received support for the 80% of the assessment expenses, which contributed to the success of the project.

Not only the documentary structure of the company had to change, but also the global perspective and vision of the international logistics business. The MIREMAR team was trained in Logistics security and handling, errors management and action protocols in case of different types of emergencies. They also had to strongly invest in IT security, implementing a new server in a external Data Center, and assuring the appropriate connectivity with the same.

Uruguay is developing Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with several countries, where the benefits in the simplification of the customs processes when the supply chain is AEO certified are already in place. Recently, a MRA was signed with China to allow for example the release of meat shipments from AEO suppliers from Uruguay in a very reduced term, shortening the waiting time and reducing costs.
